Is “Curvy” good or bad?

Posted on Posted in Health & Wellness

Unfortunately the word "curvy" has also started to mean morbidly obese! It is used most commonly as an euphemism for "fat" or "chubby." It works brilliantly as a marketing strategy for those companies which promote unhealthy food. That is really dangerous!

curvy, healthy, sexy

The "curvy philosophy" became very popular during the fight against a terrible disease called "anorexia". At the beginning this new trend has been very beneficial until has been manipulated for commercial purposes.

A curvy body has a very low waist to hip ratio. Curvy does not mean fat, obese, thick or overweight. It just means that there is a curve definition. A genuine curvy girl is definitely healthy and sexy.

Let's understand why it is really important to be in shape!

A hidden danger...the abdominal fat! Here is what you risk if not immediately eliminate this "silent killer". It is now absolutely clear in the medical-scientific world that visceral fat is very dangerous especially in terms of cardiovascular risk.

It is closely related to pathological conditions such as diabetes, hyperinsulinemia, hypertension and dyslipidemia. Numerous studies have shown that elevated waist circumference are associated with increased risk of metabolic abnormalities (inflammation, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia) and coronary heart disease.

In fact, the abdominal circumference is closely related to visceral adipose tissue which represents a risk factor more important than the subcutaneous adipose tissue, and is also a powerful indicator of insulin sensitivity.

The Visceral Fat is adipose tissue located in the space between the internal organs such as the intestine, liver and kidneys. To find out if your abdominal fat is a problem, you have to consider the waist-hip ratio and measure your waist at its narrowest point and your hips at the widest one (around the buttocks).

Divide the first measurement for the second one. Use the graphic below (infographic) for an easier and more accurate measurement.

The result must be less than 0.9 if you do not want to compromise your health!
